Oil Spill

This week scientists tried to block the hole in the ocean floor but failed. Apparenly it was too cold at the depth the hole is at so the block froze and it didnt let the oil flow up and out of the block. This is a very bad thing because the hole is releasing 5,000 of oil a day into the Gulf of Mexico. It has already been a week since the accident and it has released a ridiculous amount of oil. Now scientists are trying a new block to see if it works and if it doesnt they are going to try and block the hole with tons of debris.
I think that they shouldn't try the smaller block contraption because from what they have stated it follows the same technique and build of the last block. That one didnt work and I dont believe that this one will work either. Scientists need to be working on projects that will work better than the block because of many reasons. One is that all that oil is going to waste and in this day and age people need gas but wont buy it if its too expensive. Another reason is because all the enviornment around and in the Gulf are being poluted and its killing all of the wildlife there.

Gas Prices

Just this week gas prices jacked up about 2o cents. To people who don't pay for their gas this may not be a big deal but to most it is horrible. It makes lots of people have to worry about getting gas at any lower price. Some say that this gas price rise is due to the oil spill in the Gulf. Experts say that this isnt the fact. They say that it is due to the switching to summer gas and it is a normal price jump for the beginning of summer.
The fact that gas companies raise their prices for any reason is stupid to me. If they would simply have a much lower price they would get a huge turnout of people to buy gas, especially when all other gas is $2.95. I cant act as if im an economist but to me it seems like those huge corporations are just out to make money off of people. They will stop at nothing to gain money for their use. It bothers me that gas can jump 20 cents in one day. This is a ridiculous thing that should be one thing to reform in our country

Seniors out of Uniform

Recently the seniors just got out of uniform for the remainder of their career in highschool. They can wear basically whatever they want so it is very appealing to them. They immediatly began to do so and for good reason. But it gets annoying when some seniors will brag about it and get very arrogant about it. Not all seniors are like this but it is a select group who all of a sudden act like they are completely immature and stupid.
I think as a junior and an upper classman we should be able to not wear our uniforms in the last weeks of school. It would make life so much easier. We are about to become seniors and move into our last stage of highschool and we realllllly dont want to wear our uniforms. If RHS would just let us wear whatever we want like the seniors can, it would relieve tension between upperclassmen and make everyone less annoyed with school in general.

End of School

It is now officially the last half of the fourth quarter and everyone is now starting to work hard to keep grades up or they have just given up. Teachers are still working hard to challenge us but the general outlook about the rest of the year is that we really just dont care. We are so close to getting out of school and moving on to a great summer break.
As a student I know that all of the students at Roncalli are counting the days till summer break. We just don't care about our school work now and it is clearly effecting us. We are becoming more stressed because we are still getting homework, projects, and tests. I think that schools should slowly wind down the challenge of school in the last half of the fourth quarter. It is ridiculous to think that teachers will still give us challenges at this point in the year. We cannot focus any more due to the approaching summer and they should just let it go.

Prom

This time of year people start to plan ahead, spend money, and stress out about a seemingly giant deal of Prom. All the girls start to spend money on their dresses and guys get tuxes. They both worry about having dates or who to go with in a group. They plan and plan and plan until the actual dance happens. People seem to treat it as a bigger deal than any other dance that we have.
I think that all of the hype about Prom is ridiculous. It is just another dance that we go to, but this time it costs a lot more. Girls obsess about this dance and treat it as a day of holiness. To me it is another dance to dress up, go with your friends or dates, and just have fun. Its not a huge deal to me because it is simply another dance. People lose their minds over this dance it is humorous to me and slightly annoying. If you voice your opinions about it people sometimes will go off on you because it isnt what they think.

Butler

Butler University recently went up against Duke in the championship game of the NCAA Tournament. This is the first time they have ever gotten this far. This year they had several star players such as Gordon Heyward and Matt Howard. These two players are just a small portion of the phenominal team that played against Duke. Butler lost by only two and this was another factor that made the game memorable. Most teams that played Duke were beat by a much larger margin by the end of the game.
I think that Butler has finally been put on the map in the NCAA because of their season. Lots of people underestimated their skill because they weren't in a very challenging conference. Also people looked at their coach as too young and inexperienced. Butler really showed all of its critics how good they could be. They upset many teams, including Kansas State to get to the championship game and held their own against a very good and experienced team. Butler proved that not all big schools are the best ones. I think its like the movie Hoosiers the way they went to thc championship. It doesnt even matter that they didnt win.

Last month was March and it began the craze of what we call March Madness. This is looked forward to by tons of people all over the nation. It is the time of the NCAA tournament when college teams will play to become the National Champions. This is a great thing to win and the winner goes down in history forever. They always will be known as that years National Champ.
I think that March Madness is the best time of the year. It is amazing to watch and it is so fun for families, fans, and just people in general. The tournament is always filled with upsets, great plays, and almost always has great players that are memorable. This tournament is always fun and a good time.
